On September 1, 2002 this 10-year-old thoroughbred gelding caught its leg between the water trough and some barbwire fencing. Trying to remove the leg, it sustained these two lacerations and was treated for the first 72 hours with saline solution, sterile bandages, and wrapped with AC Tape Plus.
Beginning September 4 th, the open areas were
filled in completely with First Aid Formula, covered
with a non-adherent dressing (Telfa or Cosmopore pads), and
wrapped with AC Tape Plus. This process was repeated twice
daily until granulation was initially observed on September
11th.
With the observance of tissue granulation on
September 11 th the open area(s) continued to be treated with
an initially application of First Aid Formula then a layer
of Wound Care Formula was
applied in order to maintain the pliable profile of the granulating
area. Immediately after the application of the First Aid Formula
and Wound Care Formula, the area was covered with either Telfa
or Cosmopore padding and the entire area wrapped with AC Tape
Plus. The application of this First Aid Formula / Wound Care
Formula combination has demonstrated the goals of 1) edema
reduction 2) accelerating wound closure 3) minimization of
scabbing and therefore minimization of scarring and 4) regeneration
of hair growth and hair growth of original hair color.
The distal laceration was completely closed and
demonstrated a complete regeneration of hair growth on October
10 th, which is a treatment time of only 5 weeks from the initial
application of First Aid Formula . A comparison of the photos
from September 4th to December 6th reveals the loss of edema,
rate of wound closure, and regeneration of hair growth and
original hair color within 3 months of wound care.
On January 8, 2003 the larger wound was declared
closed and it was suggested that the First Aid Formula and
Wound Care Formula applications be reduced to 1x/day and were
discontinued 10 days later.

As a horse owner I would like to share my experience (story shown above) with other horse owners in reference to some wonderful products that I have had the opportunity to be introduced to. The MedZone VET® First Aid Formula and the MedZone VET® Wound Care Formula were given to me as an alternative to the normal medications that horse owners always have on hand. In this particular instance my 11-year-old Thoroughbred mare had made a six inch long slice in her pastern, the muscle had swollen and opened to the point that tendons and bone were exposed. The veterinarians’ diagnosis stated that there was no possibility for sutures and it would be a long healing process. I was also concerned with proud flesh growth. A friend had given me the First Aid Formula and the Wound Care Formula products to use when I told him about the incident and guaranteed me there would be no proud flesh and that I would be amazed at the healing time.
The application of the products was simple (which I was very grateful for) because you just dab it with a finger or a cotton ball, and then I applied a non-absorbent pad and vet wrap. We cleaned and re-dressed the wound everyday because of the severity. You truly would not believe the speed in which it worked: it was incredible! You could actually see improvement daily! After a two-week period of time the vet came out for a check-up and was pleasantly surprised on how much the leg had healed (with no trace of proud flesh!). Today you can barely tell where the wound was located. We use the products for every cut and abrasion our horses manage to get, it is a wonder product! This might sound a little unbelievable but it is all amazingly true.
