My ten year old Quarter horse mare developed a hypersensitivity to the Culicoides fly in January of this year (I live in California).  She was very pruritic on her ventrum (chest and underbelly) and had ventral midline dermatitis, some swelling and ulcerated lesions, some due to salt-trauma.  I am a small animal veterinarian so I consulted with my equine vet to find the best solution.  She recommended fly spray daily and gave  me furacin ointment with triamcinclone ( a steroid) to put on the swollen and ulcerated areas.  The furacin/steroid combination would take several days to heal the ulcers and reduce the swelling.  Because o the steroid, I could not use the product too many days in a row.

In June, I took my mare to the UC Davis veterinary school and the dermatologist gave me a sample of the Shield & Sheen® Stick.  I noticed a difference after using it for only a week – the horse was less pruritic and the dermatitis she had on her ventrum had improved.  I called to order more and you sent me samples of the First Aid Formula and Wound Care Formula.  There was a noticeable difference after using these two products – the ulcerated lesions healed within about two days and daily application of the Wound Care Formula to the underneath of the horse significantly improved the dermatitis and seemed to decrease the pruritis.  I have been using the Shield & Sheen® Spray on her topline and ventrum and I feel that it definitely repels the flies for a longer period of time (at least a day) than any other fly spray.

My neighbor’s horse had a saddle sore that had been present for a month – she was only able ride bareback because the sore was not healing.  I gave her the Wound Care Formula to try and within three days the sore had healed.

I think the MedZone VET® products are great and I will continue to use them.

My vet, Dr Hansen, told me to try it on my horse.  He says that UC Davis has posted it as a product that has been effective for rain rot, scratches type of skin conditions.  Thank you!!!
